Hour 1:
Zoos and Monasteries
Peter Watson, English philosopher, ends his new book Ideas: A History of Thought and Invention, from Fire to Freud with the insight that scientists would better understand human beings by observing animals in the zoo than monks in a monastery. Dennis discusses the consequences of this kind of thinking… Also, a LA Times editorial writer pens a fine piece on children and bad manners which she ends, tellingly, by drawing a Marxist conclusion. The Left is as devoted to Marx to explain the world as the religious are to the Bible. The latter acknowledges their debt, the former does not.

Hour 2:
Graduating Thieves
Many students pass through our high schools with out a clear sense of right and wrong. They appreciate “the environment,” but not their character. The best example of this is how easily students steal music off the Internet. Dennis talks to Mike Stryer, chair of the social studies department at a major high school in Los Angeles, about this issue.

Hour 3:
The NYT versus America
The New York Times is out to undermine war effort in Iraq. Two stories, one big and one small, provide excellent examples of this thesis. The first: NYT publishes a series of articles and a book about the administration spying program despite a personal appeal by the President not to. The second: a front page story about how we have paid Sunni clerics to publish positive stories about voting… Also, Dennis discusses the growing gender on college campuses – far more women are pursuing degrees than men.
